On June 27, 2014 began in Jerusalem the 6th annual Seminar for Educators, organized by the International School for Holocaust Studies of Yad Vashem, in collaboration with the Jewish Museum of Greece, designed especially for secondary school teachers from Greece. The Seminar was completed on 4 July and the 25 teachers from all over Greece who participated, had already participated in the respective seminars of the Jewish Museum of Greece over the previous period.
The group toured around Yad Vashem and attended intensive seminars on the methodological, historical and pedagogical approach of the Holocaust. Responsible organizer for this year’s seminar for the Greek teachers, was Mr. Yiftach Meiri, in cooperation with Yael Eagelstein and all the staff of the International School for Holocaust Studies including Professor Yehuda Bauer, who made the keynote-presentation seminar.
The program included lectures, tours, workshops and teamwork training exercises based on raw material following the guidelines of Yad Vashem. Additionally, as in 2013, the Greek team had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the history and educational background of the concepts of Holocaust and genocide, and to realize the importance of the Holocaust in Israeli society and education. They also dealt with other topics aimed at a broader understanding of their visit to Israel, as the Arab-Israeli conflict and its current impressions on textbooks.
The high level of presentations combined with the keen interest of the participants, provide a minimum guarantee for the best possible transfer of the rich experience gathered, in the Greek school classes, not only in the of perfection of its high lever know-how, but also as a unique cultural experience.
