Celebrating Women's Resilience & Art on International Women's Day

“Girl in red.” Flora Saltiel-Modiano, oil on canvas, Athens, 1999. © JMG Contemporary Art Collection.
Young woman lying down, with the lower part of her body turned sideways.
Her crossed legs, the orange-red color of her hair, the red and blue dress, and the pink socks, combined with the background in soft pink tones, create a sense of contradiction and tension. Through this paradoxical color language, Modiano highlights the female form as a canvas of emotions and images, blending the classical painting tradition with modern expressiveness.
Flora Saltiel-Modiano is an artist and Shoah survivor, born in Thessaloniki in 1933.
